Dance Competition
The Summersun’s Search for WA’s Best Rock ‘n” Roll Dancers is a social competition with the prime objective to display the style of dancing to the broader public and to have an “awesome” time.
The event has been organised to encourage as many people as possible to enter. Heats will be held in a number of venues around Perth and country WA. Competitors may register on the night or in advance, and may register in more than one heat for their particular grade.
All styles of Rock ‘n’ Roll dancing are acceptable—Rock’n’Roll, Jive, Pub Jive, Rockabilly, Swing etc, you name it! If you can dance to rock’n’roll music, come along and enter. The music for the heats will be chosen by the organisers. It will be suitable for all styles and be at a medium rock’n’roll pace.
There are six grades to chose from, depending on your level of experience. Both partners must be eligible for the grade. Couples may “dance up a grade” if they want to. There is nothing to stop a Beginner from dancing in all grades, although there is an additional entry fee. You can even dance with different partners.

All dance events will be available at all heats providing there are entries for them. The ShowCase will be at the finals only

| Beginners 1 | Both dancers have been dancing less than 12 months. Dance only, no lifts, throws or slides. | |
| Beginners 2 | Both dancers have been dancing more than 12 months and less than 2 years. Dance only, no lifts, throws or slides. Dancers can dance up but not down. | |
| Intermediate 1 | Dancers have been dancing more than 12 months. Dance only, no lifts, throws or slides. | |
| Intermediate 2 | Dancers have been dancing more than 12 months. Drops, lifts, throws and slides allowed. | |
| Juniors | Must be 21yrs or under | |
| Rockabilly | All Rockabilly levels welcome. | |
| Triples | Anything goes. Drops, lifts and slides allowed. | |
| Swing / Jive | All forms of Swing and/or Jive allowed | |
| Showcase | This is a showcase event where couples dance alone on their own routine and provide a copy of their selected music up to 4 minutes duration. Judges will be looking for interpreation of the music, timing, costumes, connection with your partner and crowd appeal. |
